Who we are

The Satellite and Cable Broadcasters’ Group (SCBG) is the trade association for satellite and cable programme providers. Its members air more than 100 channels in the UK, and in addition broadcast many more services from the UK to continental Europe and beyond. SCBG channels remain highly targeted with audience shares ranging from less than 0.01% to 2% of digital viewers, but with a total share of nearly 20% of multi-channel viewing.
The satellite and cable sector offers great viewer experiences by:

  • bringing a diversity of choice into viewer’s homes,
  • providing high quality information and entertainment and
  • catering for a wide variety of tastes and interests, age groups and cultural minorities.
  • giving viewers more control over the content they and their families watch and
  • increasing freedom to view programmes in the ways that suits them
  • offering new services such as interactive news and sports, home shopping and even on-screen health advice .

Satellite and cable broadcasting is the fastest growing sector in the UK television industry, employing over 6,000 people in the UK with revenues of nearly £5 billion. This sector produces more originated programming than the terrestrial channels combined, accounting for more than half the UK’s total spend. Satellite and cable channels are also providing a huge boost to public service output, broadcasting 14,000 hours a month of public service programming.

A growing number of UK homes are responding to this increasing level of choice by becoming multi-channel subscribers, with 80% of UK households now having digital multi-channel television.
